WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF REFRIGERATORS?

The small refrigerators

The bar fridge, cube fridge, or mini-fridge is the smallest one you find in hotel rooms. Narrower than the standard width and lower than a top fridge, it is perfect for storing drinks by the pool or in an office.

The fridge top or tabletop, meanwhile, is the king of student studios. It measures a maximum of 85 cm high with or without a freezer compartment, can be built under a worktop, and is sufficient for one or two adults. If you are looking to furnish a studio or need an extra fridge, this is for you!

Standard refrigerators

The 1 door refrigerator or cupboard refrigerator is the most classic. Easy to store and available in a wide range of styles, it adapts to any kitchen. You will even find vintage refrigerators… at least in appearance.

The fridge freezer separates the freezer compartment from the fridge compartment by assigning a door to each. The freezer is larger and more powerful there than in a 1-door fridge. Result: you save energy, preserve the cold chain, and keep stored products longer. You will find two types of refrigerator-freezers: the 2-door refrigerator with a freezer at the top, and the combined refrigerator, with an even larger freezer placed at the bottom. WHAT IS THE STANDARD SIZE OF A FRIDGE?

The standard width of a refrigerator is 60 cm. beyond that, the fridge is considered “wide”! The height depends on the models: allow about 80 to 85 cm for a top fridge, 125 to 200 cm for a 1-door or combined fridge.

Large volume refrigerators

The American refrigerator is the most famous of the XXL fridges. Favorite of large families, it has at least two doors facing each other, one for the freezer and the other for the refrigerator. If you are looking for a family fridge, this is it, especially since most models have a water and ice dispenser on the front. The classic American fridge has asymmetrical doors, two-thirds of the width going to the fridge. The side by side version, meanwhile, has two doors of the same size.

The multi-door refrigerator pushes the principle even further with 3 or 4 doors. The best known of the multi-door models, the “French door” fridge, has three. Are you looking for a versatile refrigerator? You will find models with drawers, modular and even reversible compartments, to change their function between the fridge and freezer!

THE BAKER’S TIP

Not easy to differentiate the models? Analyze the door. In one piece, you are dealing with a 1 door refrigerator. If it is divided into two parts with a freezer at the top, it is a 2-door refrigerator. If the freezer is at the bottom, it is a combination refrigerator. Does the fridge have two doors facing each other? It’s an American fridge. And if they are more than two, it is multi-door!

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF INSTALLATION FOR A FRIDGE?

Depending on the configuration of your kitchen, you will also have the choice between two types of installation for your refrigerator.

The freestanding refrigerator simply installs. You can place it wherever you want, as long as it has an electrical outlet. The advantage? You have total freedom in size and design, from vintage refrigerators to black refrigerators!

The built-in refrigerator, it fits into a niche designed in advance and hides behind a facade that matches the rest of the kitchen furniture. Perfectly integrated into an equipped kitchen, it is discreet, but the range of choices depends on its location.
